O celowości porównywania do Krakowa świadczy umieszczenie widoku Krosna w miedziorycie Georga Brauna (1541–1622) i Fransa Hogenberga (ok. 1535–1590), w dziele Civitates orbis terrarum (Miasta świata wydanym w 1617 r. w Kolonii) w towarzystwie m.in. Regni Poloniae Magnique Ducatus Lithuanie Novissima Descriptio, wydanym w Amsterdamie.
Krosno is located in south-eastern Poland, in the Podkarpackie Province, at the mouth of the Lubatówka stream to Wisłok, in the Jasielsko-Krosno Basin, which is part of the Central Beskids Foothills. Krosno was described as "parva Cracovia" - meaning "little Krakow", because the Krosno Market Square was associated with the Renaissance cloth hall with the Krakow Old Town, and also because of the high level of mental life of the city. The purposefulness of comparing to Krakow is demonstrated by placing Krosno in the copper engraving of Georg Braun (1541–1622) and Frans Hogenberg (around 1535–1590), in the work Civitates orbis terrarum (Cities of the world published in 1617 in Cologne) in the company of, among others . Krakow, Poznań, Warsaw or Zamość, and in the work of Andreas Cellarius (1596–1665) of 1659. Regni Poloniae Magnique Ducatus Lithuanie Novissima Descriptio, published in Amsterdam.
